Tuku fans pay tribute

It has been two whole years after Oliver Mtukudzi ‘s death and yet his fans continue to remember
the man of integrity and talent he was.Several people have taken to social media to express their
heartfelt odes to the musician In spite of all the chaos in world at the moment.
Most Zimbabweans have a memory connected to a Mtukudzi song .For the writer ,Mtukudzi
music is that road trip to the village ,four straight hours of pure talent and entertainment,or that
lazy sunday afternoon in summer sipping on a cool cup of Mazoe.Tuku ‘s music was and still is a
message of hope ,love and an educational tool to all generations alike.He was artistic in his use of
shona proverbs and his lyrical content.
One minute of listening to ‘Dande’ could remind you of your own roots.While “Pata Pata ” could
surely inspire dance moves.He spoke against gender based violence in “Tozeza baba” and
encouraged prayer in times of trouble with “Help me Lord”.
He won several national and international awards during his career including being awarded
several honorary degrees at the university of Zimbabwe and Women’s University.One of his
highest award is the Cavaliere of the Order of Merit Award he received from Italy as recognition
of him being an International Artist.He was also appointed Zimbabwe’s first UNICEF Goodwill
Ambassador for Eastern and Southern Africa.This was all in the same year. Tuku was more than just a great musician ,he was a father in the industry.He Established his
Pakare Paye Arts Center where young artists like Mbeuand Garry Tight were trained .This
initiative showed that he wanted to leave the music industry in well equipped hands .Oliver ” Tuku
” Mtukudzi will forever be missed.
