Teachers will Resist Compulsory Deductions for Gems

Spread the news

Gvt plans to invade salaries of all civil servants by deducting 2.5% of gross from every civil servant for Gems for three months. Gvt claims it has injected $75 million seed capital in the project, which claim is doubtful.

Teachers from across the country have spoken that they cannot afford the 2.5% deduction from their starvation wages and will resist any deduction done without their consent by any democratic means possible. If the project is noble as the gvt purports, let it be voluntary, with gvt only deducting 2.5% from civil servants who would have concerted to this by way of signing a deduction form. Attempts to first deduct from all civil servants, with claims that those who do not want would be given an opportunity to withdraw is suicidal and unlawful. With the gvt bureaucracy and control of SSB, the so called voluntary withdrawal could be after two months robbery deductions if not the whole duration of three months. Teachers resisted the garrison shops forced deductions and would resist the GEMS robbery deduction.

Nothing for teachers without teachers, and anything for teachers without their engagement, input, and consent is against them. The GEMS is no exception and must be voluntary right from building seed money from civil servants. Gvt must be warned that action and reaction are equal and opposite. There is certainly no need to mobilise civil servants against gvt by introducing robbery deductions.
