Spezia Calcio coach Vincenzo Italiano has acknowledged the sacrifices made by Emmanuel Gyasi during the 2-0 win against AC Milan on Saturday.

Italiano adjusted his tactics against the Rossoneri due to the absence of top scorer M’Bala Nzola and Roberto Piccoli.

The 43-year-old gaffer deployed Juan Agudelo as a False 9, with Gyasi and Ricky Saponara providing support from the flanks whenever the Eagles had possession in the final third.

Gyasi and his teammates swiftly grasped the tactical master-stroke as they made light work of high-flying Diavolo courtesy goals from Guilo Maggiore and Simone Bastoni.

Italiano did not bask in glory alone as he hailed the display of Gyasi and Saponara for their efforts in ensuring that the tactics worked to perfection.

“He has some remarkable qualities, great strength, is so quick with the ball at his feet and hadn’t given his best out wide. Out of necessity, we asked him to work as a centre-forward and it’s really starting to pay off. He’s a huge surprise and I think he’s enjoying himself in the new role too.”

“Ricky Saponara and Emmanuel Gyasi sacrificed themselves for the team tonight, working hard to neutralise the Milan full-backs. It was a perfect performance and I hope it’s one of many from here to the end of the season.”

Gyasi has provided 4 assists and plundered 2 goals in 26 games in all competitions for the side so far this term.
