Local fast rising zimdancehall star Poptain real name Ameen Jaleel Yaseen was delighted and grateful to the Zimbabwe Music Awards. He dominated the 2021 edition award nominations last Thursday with five nominations.
The ZIMA ceremony scheduled for early this year was postponed to February 20. This is due to the rise in the number of deaths and infections of the Covid 19 pandemic. However a virtual ceremony will be held at the Newland County club in Harare.
Poptain arguably had a blistering year with hits like fadza mutengi, munhu wanyama and kokai blazing the streets. As a result most of his tracks dominated chart shows across tv and radio stations and on Trace Africa.
In a short video on Instagram, Poptain said he was overwhelmed by the acknowledgement he received from the award organisers.
“The recognition matters to me, just having people know that I exist and have a talent is what I appreciate. I am very thankful for the five nominations at the ZIMA awards. I am happy and overwhelmed, I cannot even contain myself. This gives me hope and the energy to keep working “,he said.
Poptain received nominations for best male. Song of the year. Best Zimdancehall and best collaboration for his two tracks ‘kokai’ with Nutty O and ‘fadza mutengi’ featuring Allanah.
This year’s ZIMA nominations, have Zimdancehall youngsters leading the pack. The most notable being Nutty O and Jah Master also receiving four nominations each.
