Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes believes that he and Paul Pogba can sparkle together at Old Trafford despite doubts over whether they can play together in the same team.

The Portuguese playmaker has had limited opportunities to play alongside the former Juventus star since signing in January, as Pogba has struggled for form and fitness.

Fernandes and Pogba have played a part in all of United’s league fixtures thus far, however question marks have been raised as to whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can start the duo together in midfield.

Sky sports pundit Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe the two can play together, saying recently on Monday Night Football: ‘The problem for me is Paul Pogba, I’ve said it for a long time. I’m with Gary (Neville), Fernandes is the man for that No 10 position but I don’t know how Ole can not pick a £90m signing in Pogba, it’s difficult for a manager, so at some stage he will get back into the team.’

The Frenchman was dropped by manager Solskjaer for the away win at Newcastle and the home draw with Chelsea and was used as an impact substitute in both games, but Fernandes insists they can play in the same side and that it would only be to the benefit of United.

‘It’s always a pleasure being in a team with him because I can learn a lot from him, and he can learn a lot from me. Together we can do great things,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘We have a good relationship, of course. We both speak Italian so most of the time we speak Italian. I have a good relationship with him on and off the pitch.

‘He’s a funny guy, he always wants to joke. I know him from Italy already but now I have the chance to be in a team with a World Cup winner.’

The 26-year-old Portugal international also rubbished rumours about Pogba’s poor attitude.

He added: ‘Paul wants to play, he wants to be in the first XI, that is no different to any player – they all want to be in the first XI.

‘Of course Paul is an amazing player who has done a lot of great things in the past few years. The way he came in against Paris Saint-Germain, against Newcastle, was perfect for the team.

‘A lot of people may think Paul is angry on the bench and that he will do nothing when he comes on because he is angry, but he comes in with the right motivation, as we saw with his assist in Paris.

‘Being on the bench is a problem for everyone, but this problem is motivation for Paul. He uses this as motivation and he is helping the team a lot when he comes in and plays, like he did in the last game in the Champions League.’
