Dan Evans was the only British player to win on Wednesday with Johanna Konta and Katie Boulter both edged out as preparations for next week’s Australian Open continued.

Eighth seed Evans beat Portugal’s Pedro Sousa 6-3 7-5 in the second round of the Murray River Open, having received a bye in the first round.

The British No 1 will next Marcos Giron in the tournament, which features Stan Wawrinka and Nick Kyrgios.
