How Mourinho Almost Lured Messi From Barca

Lionel Messi has become one of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen, all while wearing an FC Barcelona shirt, but Jose Mourinho seemingly came close to changing the course of history.

Messi came close to leaving the Spanish giants in the most recent transfer window, after informing club officials that he wanted out.

Barca were not going to let him go without a fight, though, and in the end the player made a U-turn on the decision, due to the fact that he did not want the matter to go to court.

This was not the first time Messi had set his sights on greener pastures, though, with Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealing that Chelsea caught his eye back in 2004.

As reported by the Daily Star, Di Marzio has claimed that Mourinho was on the verge of a major scoop during his first spell with Chelsea.

The journalist said that Messi came “so close” to joining the Portuguese tactician in London as a 16-year-old, following a long private call with the current Tottenham Hotspur boss.

A deal for the starlet was not completed at that time, though, and Messi has gone on to score 635 goals for the Catalans, while also winning the Ballon d’Or six times.
