Hopewell Chin’ono is set to appear in court today on charges of undermining public confidence in a law enforcement agency, the Prison Service or the Defence Forces of Zimbabwe in contravention of section 31 (a)(iii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23, Nhau has confirmed.
One of his lawyers, Gift Mtisi, told Nhau that they were not yet certain what time Chin’ono would be availed at the Harare Magistrates Court.
“Yes, he will appear in court today but we are not yet sure of the time,” he said.
Chin’ono spent Friday night detained at Harare Central Police Station following his arrest earlier in the day.
His arrest was necessitated by a tweet which the police felt had undermined them when he communicated that a police officer had beaten up a child who subsequently died.
